Why Ashbrook Roofing Services?

At Ashbrook Roofing Services, we commit ourselves to helping our customers achieve their vision, using the right material for the right project and offering our expert advice and experience in the process.

Ashbrook Roofing remains a family run business whose vision is to inspire, support & deliver our customers project needs.

Ashbrook Roofing Services has been fixing and fitting slate and tile roofs since 1978. Although predominantly operating in and around Derbyshire and the Peak District National Park, we have traveled as far as London and Dover in the South and up to Harrogate in the North.

We are not only known locally for our work with private customers but also for our projects with public organizations and historic buildings such as Chatsworth Estate, Willersley Castle, several churches in the area, Derbyshire County Council, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue, and Platform Housing Group.

We’re Experienced, We’re Skilled, We’re Qualified

We have over 45 years of experience in the roofing industry and are able to undertake a large variety of different roofing work to meet the needs of the homeowner or client, we concentrate on this by our Core Focus, being the very best we can be in terms on quality and specialism.

We do this by directly employing all our experienced roofers, at Ashbrook Roofing Services who are trained and follow our company Code of Conduct, Core Values, & Core Focus. Our team of roofers start and end their day at our roofing divisions depot, where we have briefing meetings every morning and afternoon on project updates, materials and general communication.

We conduct monthly in-house training, specifically focusing on BS5534 and other roofing categories. This allows our roofing team to learn the theory as well as the physical trade when working on the roofs across Derbyshire.

Health & Safety Training

We follow a strict Health & Safety matrix for our team members, ensuring they are regularly kept up to date with asbestos awareness, working at height, abrasive wheel, awareness of silica dust, first aid on site, and more. All our projects have specific risk and method statements written (RAMS) which is then communicated through the team leaders onsite. Our roofing teams have a minimum standard of Health & Safety equipment of hard helmets, high visibility vests, safety boots and work wear clothes that are suitable.

All our roofers are specifically trained in asbestos awareness and how to handle asbestos. We are legally classed and certified as a non-licensed asbestos handlers, removers, and carriers. This allows us to work with solid white (chrysotile) asbestos safely and legally.

Roofing Qualifications, Training and Education

Our trainee roofers all have a minimum qualification of an NVQ Level 2 in roofing and hold a blue card. The Roofing Team Leaders conduct their NVQ level 3 SCS Gold Card which gives them the correct standards in team management as a supervisor and team leader onsite, and our management team and Contracts Supervisor holds a Qualification of an NVQ level 6 Black card.

NVQ qualifications are provided by an external examiner who conducts site visits and asks for evidence in other roofing disciplines, this gives our team members their NVQ in a specific roofing discipline.

Throughout our new financial year, the management of the roofing division of the business creates a 12-month training plan for all our roofers, which enhances their technical and physical ability. These training courses which varies from rubber roofing courses in the manufacturer’s premises, built up bitumen membrane flat roofing courses in the manufactures premises, to a 5-day essential lead welding and bossing courses, 5-day essential slating and tiling courses in an onsite roofing training centre in Salford, Manchester.

For some of the more experienced team members they undergo a more extensive expert training through a 30-day comprehensive lead work and slate & tiling course on more detailed and complex roofing work in a roofing training centre in Salford, Manchester.

We have two members of the team who are trained specifically on a 15-day specialist heritage lead work course which far exceeds the normal or average skillset in leadwork and allows us to work on historic and listed building throughout Derbyshire.

This enables Ashbrook Roofing Services to deliver expert advice and specialised roofing work to a minimum of British standards and manufacture guidelines.

Project Specifications, Manufacturer Guidelines & Fixing Specifications

On every project we strictly follow manufacturers’ guidelines and recommendations, as well as updates provided by the NFRC (National Federation of Roofing Contractors). As every roof is different, depending on the material being used on that particular project we specifically request and follow a fixing specification for your property from the manufacture, giving them project details like, location, building dimensions, pitch of roof, floor to gutter height, wind exposure and project details, so they can advise and recommend their specification on driving rain, certain wind pressures, fixing methods and more.

As well as following manufacturers guidelines and their fixing specifications, we create and document our own project pack for our roofers, including a project specification which is then communicated to the team that is best suited to that project, this includes, RAMS, fixing guides, special requirements from the client, time frames, and access.

Quality Control & Site Visits

To ensure quality control, communication and to ensure the team leaders have everything they need throughout the project, our Senior Contracts Manager visits all our roofing projects to assess the project progression. Our Contracts Manager will also try and see the client at the time of his ad hoc visits to communicate the progression and stage the project is currently working at.

The Team Leader assigned to the project will try to communicate daily with the client or homeowner to also give updates of the day to day running and progression of the project, this also the ensure the client is comfortable with the movement of materials and general noise of the works being carried out.

After the project have been completed, our Senior Contracts Manager arranges a specific date with the client to formally sign off the project and ensure the client is satisfied with the finished project and look to address any other areas of amendments that may be needed. During this meeting, we also look to collect any feed back from our clients to understand how we can improve moving forward.

Ashbrook Roofing Services are Lead Work Experts

Did you know that one of our team members came runner up in the country in the young lead worker of the year award? This team member teaches other members of the team on a Saturday in our depot to improve on their skills with lead welding and bossing. We also treat them with a few coffees and bacon cob.

Apart from the 5-day onsite training courses and the 30-day inhouse lead training courses, we have listed above, some of our more experienced team members have been specifically trained in a 15-day heritage lead training course, which teaches them the intricate details of heritage buildings, churches, and historic buildings. They also teach the younger and less experienced members of the team. Gallery of Roofing Work – Ashbrook Roofing Services

NFRC Competent Person Scheme

Being a part of a competent roofer, allows us to self-certify our works, this removes the need and expense of a building inspector before and after the project. A Building Regulations Compliance Certificate (BRCC) is automatically sent to our clients. The Competent Roofer scheme recognises the skills we have as well as our competence as professional accredited roofing contractors. Ashbrook Roofing Services also undergoes strict inspections, the scheme evaluates a proportion of the work we do under Document L1B each year, for each of our roofing disciplines.

What is the NFRC Competent Person Scheme?

The NFRC Competent Person Scheme (CPS) recognises the skills, and competencies of professional Roofing Contractors whilst alleviating the hassle, and cost (£120 and upwards) of requiring the involvement of Local Authority Building Control (LABC) or an approved Private Inspector.

An NFRC CPS contractor has the unique ability to self-certify that the work they complete complies with the relevant Building Regulations in England & Wales.

If you are replacing 50% of more of your roof, it is a legal requirement that you upgrade the insulation and obtain a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate (BRCC). When the work has been signed off as complete you, the homeowner, will receive a BRCC and insurance backed guarantee. Importantly, LABC will automatically be notified that the works have taken place, fulfilling your legal obligation.

If a contractor is not a member of NFRC CPS they would have to apply for building regulations before any work starts and failure by a contractor or householder to comply with the Building Regulations could result in them receiving an enforcement notice from LABC, requiring the alteration or removal of your roof at your own cost.

Also, without a valid Building Regulations Compliance Certificate (BRCC) you will encounter trouble when it comes to selling your property.

With NFRC CPS every domestic notification includes a 10-year insurance backed guarantee (IBG) to reinforce the contractor’s workmanship guarantee. In the event the roof fails, and the company is no longer in business, the IBG will come into effect.

In the unlikely event, something was to go wrong; we have a full and comprehensive complaints procedure that we follow- write to us at NFRC Competent Person Scheme, 31 Worship Street, London EC2A 2DY – Telephone: 020 7448 3189 – Email: admin@nfrccps.com

Quality Assured National Warranties

As a member of QANW, we are able to provide our customers with independent 10 year underwritten insurance backed guarantee, therefore increasing your confidence in ourselves and the high standard of work we provide.

What is an Insurance Backed Guarantee?

An insurance backed guarantee provides valuable consumer protection for homeowners and increases customer’s confidence that the installer is reliable and trustworthy.

Although a workmanship guarantee sets out the installing contractor’s obligation to rectify defects in the installation carried out, unfortunately this does not guarantee that they will always be around.

The purpose of an insurance backed guarantee is to honour the terms of the installing contractor’s own guarantee, where unfortunately the installing contractor has ceased to trade and is therefore unable to satisfy remedial claims made against their workmanship guarantee.

Should a homeowner find themselves in this unfortunate situation, they can claim against the insurance backed guarantee should there be a defect with the workmanship and the installing contractor has ceased to trade.

This service is available on full re-roof work or new build roofing works and not applicable to roof repairs.

You can verify the installers’ status with QANW; please do not hesitate to contact us on 01292 268020.
